💡 Quick Pool Care
Here’s a simple weekly routine for a sand-filter pool that keeps the water clear and the system running efficiently. Most owners can do this in 15 minutes per week.
1. Empty Pump & Skimmer Baskets
Turn pump OFF.
Open the pump basket lid and remove leaves/debris.
Empty the skimmer basket in the pool.
✔ This keeps water flow strong and prevents the pump from working too hard.
2. Check Filter Pressure
Look at the pressure gauge on the sand filter.
If pressure is 8–10 PSI higher than the clean pressure, it’s time to backwash.
If pressure is normal → leave it alone.
✔ Don’t backwash every week unless needed.
3. Backwash (if Needed)
Only do this if pressure is high. Backwashing is only available on sand filters
Turn pump OFF
Set valve to Backwash
Run pump 2–3 minutes (until waste water runs clear)
Turn pump OFF
Set valve to Rinse
Run 20–30 seconds
Return valve to Filter
4. Quick Pool Skim
Use a leaf net to remove:
Leaves
Bugs
Floating debris
✔ Keeps the filter from doing unnecessary work.
5. Run the Pump Enough
Make sure the pump runs at least 8–12 hours per day in summer.
This circulates water so the filter and chemicals work properly.
6. Quick Visual Check
Look for:
Air bubbles in return jets
Leaks around pump or filter
Weak water flow
Catching small issues early saves money.
7. Check your Water Balance
Using test strips its a good idea to make sure your pH, Alkalinity, Calcium, and Chlore are all within normal ranges
Too low or too high of pH can make your chemicals not work very well.
Bring in a water sample instore and we can check your water balance and other parameters to make sure your pool is ready for fun!
8. Bonus: Add Assure
Add 2 capfuls of Pure Wow Assure into the skimmer. This helps to keep your pool water clean by removing any phosphates, (food for algae) oils, and scum by digesting it with active emyems.
9. Bonus: Add Soiel
Adding soiel monthly helps to keep your chlorine usage low. Soiel uses the power of the sun to help oxide swimmers’ waste without the need for extra shock treatments. Shock less and swim more!
While Soiel is great on hot sunny days, shocking is still required after heavy pool usage, heavy thunderstorm, or wildfire smoke.
✅ That’s it.
This basic routine prevents 90% of cloudy pool problems.
